Consent Culture – A Manifesto.

Consent Culture is a movement for social change.

Consent is transformative.

Consent is a human right.

Consent shifts our culture away from entitlement and privilege, towards empathy and kindness.

Consent is foundational for building a better world.

“CONSENT” in this context is practiced – an ongoing process of connection, finding agreement to proceed.

Consent requires:

• AGENCY – all parties have capacity to consent: nobody is pressured, manipulated or coerced

• ACCOUNTABILITY – willingness to take responsibility for the impact of those decisions and actions on others and the world

• CONTEXT – an appropriate understanding for all parties of the context, the ending points, the limitations and boundaries of their particpation

• CURIOSITY – all parties are able to ask questions and find information in order to understand fully what they are consenting to, and any risks relating to it

• CHANGEABILITY – change is constant and as such consent may be withdrawn or renegotiated between parties at any point and by any of them

• COMMUNICATION – awareness, engagement and positive agreement by all parties to proceed and continue

We want consent to be present in all human interaction – from the intimate and inter-personal, to the social and the cultural.

Building consent culture involves celebrating human diversity without judgement. Empathy and openness help us to seek connection and common ground. Our differences support our collective strength. We aim towards consensus and a desirable world for all.

Cultural change is influenced by personal change. We can each make positive change towards consent culture within our sphere of influence.

Together we will campaign to grow consent culture across the globe.
